Possible Usage

The iPWRSwitch can be use for all the power switching needs a company may require. the following section describes only a few of these usage's.

Medium Size Company

The IT department of a Medium Sized Company is usually understaffed and overburden with "fire fighting" issues, running from user to server rooms, and back again.

Whether the technician be close by or far away, when a server freezes he/she will be able reset the equipment using their workstation saving time and money by allowing personnel to focus on more value related activities.

This will keep the cost of the IT department down while providing a greater level of service to the end-user.

Large Company

Large Size Companies may have offices or affiliated companies spread over different geographical locations.

Instead of having an IT department at each and every location there could be a single IT department that handles the service request for all of the separate locations.

One potential problem has been that an employee asked to reboot a particular server may reboot the wrong server causing critical data to be lost.

The technician can now reboot the server/workstation from a central location without any assistance from on site personnel.

Telecom Company

Telecom companies have several hundred thousands unmanned sites that house their servers, routers and switches worldwide. We have been in contact with several telecom companies who have expressed great interest and excitement in the iPWRSwitch8 power management product.

With the iPWRSwitch8 users can survey and reboot network critical equipment remotely from their command centre instead of having to drive to unmanned sites to perform troubleshooting and problem resolution. In addition to the ability to manage and control the power that goes to network critical equipment, the iPWRSwitch8 allows you to manage and control a wide range of sensors. Key elements like temperature, humidity, water and smoke levels at the unmanned sites can be easily measured with corresponding actions taken immediately. Simply add sensors and set up the easily programmable warning levels and your new iPWRSwitch8 will give you full control along with the peace of mind that your unmanned sites are fully operational. An example using a sensor could be to set a warning level at a temperature of 37 degrees and a shut down command at 40 degrees. At 37 degrees the iPWRSwitch8 will send a warning email to the command centre. At 40 degrees it will shut down the equipment avoiding the potential for the equipment to burn out. Depending on the user’s preference, the unit could be programmed to automatically power on the equipment when the temperature returns to a lower temperature level.

Internet Service Providers and Webhosting

In the case of an ISP based company the iPWRSwitch8, enables the company to provide a solution to its server based customers - which enables the customer to personally decide if a server needs rebooting. It can also ensure that the server farm is up and running faster and more smoothly with the integration of the iPWRSwitch8 into the management tools that the company runs - i.e. if a computer stops responding and can't be rebooted via normal system calls, the surveillance system sends a request to the iPWRSwitch8 system, which then hardware reboots the computer. This is done without the intervention of a technician. This can be done 24-7-365. The power measuring feature of the iPWRSwitch8 system is extremely valuable to an ISP company, mainly due to the following issues:
  • Charging for actual power consumed
  • Online information about usage for the end-user
  • Same amount of power is needed for cooling and Rising cost of electrical power
  • Cost of electrical power is rising

Call Center

In a call center the phone system is the most important piece of equipment and it tends to locks up due to different factors. The administrator or technician is commonly informed of the lock up via email or other forms of notification, then he/she has to manually reboot the system. This can be done automatically via the iPWRSwitch8 system. The phone system will generate an error message that it has frozen, which is then sent to the iPWRSwitch8 system where a reboot sequence is started immediately. In the case of a call center - time is of the out most importance, so if you can cut minutes, even seconds from the reboot sequence, then service is improved and money is saved.
